ZOOM INTO QUARANTINE - STAGE 3
Never before has the word "Quarantine" been more significant and relevant. Zoom into Quarantine is a virtual excursion devised to introduce your Stage 3 students to the Quarantine Station and to support their topics of The Australian Colonies and Australia as a Nation. Presented by our experienced and passionate Education Guides, you will explore our mesmerising site and touch on just some of the thousands of stories from the many migrants who passed through the Quarantine Station in its 156-year history, Australia's oldest and longest-operating Quarantine Station at Sydney's North Head. It is perhaps one of the most historically significant sites in Australia with its largely original and well-preserved buildings and the landscape in which they sit reflecting Australia's social and political history over its 156 years of operation.
We can’t wait to “virtually” welcome your students to our site nestled in Sydney Harbour National Park where they can connect live with one of our Education Guides and gain a deep appreciation of the significance of this special place. We assure you that the experience will be immersive, curriculum-linked and unforgettable. We hope that it will inspire both teachers and students to come and visit us “for real” as soon as we are allowed to welcome schools back to our unique and captivating site.
The Program:
Students will look at the factors that led different people to migrate to Australia, what their journey may have been like and their experience once they arrived here at The Quarantine Station. They will board the ship RMS Niagara and experience the journey through the eyes of a First Class passenger and a 3rd Class passenger. They will explore the heritage-listed site, taking in the Wharf Precinct, the disinfecting process, and the hospital and they will examine primary historical sources.
