Well it's been a hectic couple of months leading into the summer season, with plenty going on across the site.

Our new Water Shuttle service is now operational on weekends, departing King Street Wharf at Darling Harbour on a regular basis. Visitors now can really experience the magic of the arrival at Quarantine Wharf, after travelling across the stunning Sydney Harbour.I encourage you all to take the time to enjoy this new service... maybe drop in for Sunday Brunch, or to take a tour or two... it is definitely worth the time.

Now that summer is upon us, a weekend break might be on your agenda. Our summer accommodation packages, for couples or family groups offer the best value for money and include plenty of extras so you can truly experience Q Station.

And finally, for those readers of Travel + Leisure, you might have noticed that we (and I) rated a gong in the Out of the Box Awards, for our work here at Q Station and in particular "injecting history with new life". Tours Update
There is plenty going on at Q Station this summer... Why not take one of our interactive tours or experiences - perfect for the whole family. Choose from the following:

Defiance - Friday & Saturday
40 Days - Saturday & Sunday
Spirit Investigator - Friday
Adult Ghost Tour - Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday
Family Ghost Tour - Friday & Sunday

As you can see, the Adult Ghost Tour continues, and with more guides on our books this year, we can offer event more tours.

New look Waiting Shelter
Our waiting shelter in the main car park has recently undergone a transformation with new information panels installed. These panels give visitors an overview of the activities, facilities and development of the Q Station and are the perfect way to get more information prior to entering the site.

Defiance
The first season of Defiance will end on January 24th, so this is your last chance to see the production with the current actors before they go onto other projects.

Children’s Summer Program
We have 3 exciting new activities for you and your children to do on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the summer school holidays.

Tuesday - 6th, 13th & 20th January (6.30-8.30pm)
Cost: $22, Family: $85; Ages: 6-14 years
When kids stayed at the Quarantine Station they heard strange sounds at night and it wasn’t always the ghosts! The same kind of beasties that made those noises are still lurking in the bushes here now.  Learn all about them on this special school holiday experience.  Come along and have a peek…and maybe hear a few ghost stories. What will make you jump?

Wednesday- 7th, 14th & 21st January (3.30pm-5pm)
Cost: $19, Family: $75; Ages: 6-10 years
Ever seen a real live Dragon?  At the Q Station we’ve got plenty and if you’re quick you can catch a glimpse…of Eastern Water Dragons, Bandicoots, Kookaburras and other fascinating creatures.  Listen to tales of how new settlers coped in a strange land crawling with weird animals. Come and explore and maybe see your first real Dragon!

Thursday- 8th, 15th and 22nd January (10.30-12noon)
Cost: $19, Family: $75; Ages: 6-10 years
Before TV and computer games what did kids do for fun? Come on a tour packed full of fun and games and find out.

Wharf Precinct Self Guided Tours
Now you can pop into the Visitor Centre and grab one of our booklets to wander around the Wharf Precinct in your own time. The Self Guided Tour will take about 30 minutes, and the booklet provides you with plenty of information on the buildings, their uses, significance and the flow of Quarantine passengers in times past.

Funicular Stairway almost complete
Construction of the Funicular Stairway linking the Accommodation Precinct tothe Wharf Precinct is progressing well with massive cranes hauling the pieces of stairway into place. The lighting will be installed in late December for opening of the stairway in January.

Cottage Adaptation
We are currently adapting the former Staff Cottages into self-contained 3 bedroom accommodation, ideal for families. The first cottages will be available for overnight stays in January.

Shade at the Boilerhouse
We are also in the process of constructing a shade structure in the outdoor eating area of the Boilerhouse Restaurant. Due to be completed in January, this will reflect the design of the original coal store and be perfect on those hot summer days.

Farewell Kristian
Thanks, good bye and good luck to Kristian Butcher, our Construction Manager who is going on to work on projects in Dubai now that the majority of the Q Station construction work has been completed.

Farewell Claire
Also on another departure, Claire Champion, the conservator of our Moveable Heritage Collection is leaving for world travels. Claire joined the team as a volunteer and was promoted to full time conservator, her amazing efforts mean that the conservation of the collection is well ahead of shedule, thanks to her amazing work.
